Citroen, Ford, Toyota and Hyundai remained committed to the event, fielding strong talent in the forms of Ogier, Neuville, Tänak, Latvala and Lappi, amongst others. It was a hard fought season th at saw a tight title fight between Neuville, Tänak and Ogier that was eventually decided in favour of the defending champion but only at the final round of the year.
