Ascari scored pole position during practice with the photographed car. The race was won by Maurice Trintignant in a Ferrari 625 / 553. He raced motorcycles in his earlier years; it was after he entered the prestigious Mille Miglia in a Ferrari sports car that he eventually started racing on four wheels regularly.
