His father, Bill Vukovich Sr., won the Indianapolis 500 back-to-back in 1953 and 1954 before dying in a crash during the 1955 race. Bill Vukovich II made his own mark at Indianapolis, competing in multiple 500s through the late 1960s and into the 1980s.
